(below) "Ombu Tree", copyright 1994, 55" x 70". The ombu grows in S. America and is one of the hardiest tree species in the world; I used it as a metaphor for withstanding adversity. (private collection)

(below) "Ombu II / Passing Storm", copyright 1995, 71" x 43". This ombu tree has weathered the storm. Ombus also withstand disease, drought, wind, and even fire. (collection of Shelter Rock Unitarian Universalist Congregation, Manhasset, NY)

(below) "The Ring of a Tree", copyright 1996, 49" x 49". A magnolia tree just about to come into bloom, with its roots made visible, is surrounded by a magical ring of light. (private collection)
|
(below) "Tree and Leaf", copyright 1995, 47" x 63". This small, lone poplar tree, buffeted by strong winds, casts a light rather than a shadow; this light is also a leaf, its veins flowing from the rivers of the landscape. (available for purchase)

(below) "Tree and Leaf II", copyright 1997, 40" x 51". A sycamore drops its last tiny leaf. Expanded across the land, the large yellow leaf will nurture its parent tree. (private collection)
