About My Quilts
I hope that you will see both impossibility and believability in my art quilts. We live in a magical world, and I love capturing a bit of nature's beauty and some hints of its mystery.
I work in fabric because it presents so many possibilities for transformation: familiar plaid shirts become patterns of agriculture; printed calicoes might suggest distant fields of flowers; hand-dyed and hand-painted blue fabrics are soft or stormy skies or water.
I think of quilting lines as transformative, too: straight lines define furrowed fields, curved lines might connote flight lines of birds, water currents, or the swirl of the wind.
Commercial cotton fabrics, those hand-dyed or hand-painted, and occasional new or used clothing-all are sources for my materials.
Each quilt is original and one-of-a-kind. Generally I both applique and quilt by hand, usually spending two to four months per piece. It is meticulous work! But it helps me find a place of stillness in myself, and to become ever more appreciative of the world around me.
I hope you will share some of these feelings as you look at my quilts.
Many of the quilts pictured are for sale, with prices generally $3000-$8000. Older, less expensive quilts are also available. I also do some commission work, as well as teaching and lecturing. Please email if you are interested, or if you have thoughts about my work. Thanks for visiting!

(above) "Bird of Hope", copyright 2002, 48" square. My message of hope is that war with Iraq can be avoided, and that terrorism will cease and tolerance will rise. I hope you the viewer will choose your own hopeful message and then work toward its actualization.

(above) "Unbroken Oak", copyright 2002, 69" x 55". Made in response to the events of September 11th, this quilt symbolizes both being attacked and being supported by nature and sky. As the tree's natural growth resumes in the outer borders, so do we move ahead, mindful of the gap we leave behind. Available for purchase.

(above) "Bird Islands", copyright 2001, 57" x 40". There are twelve birds (geese and sandpipers) hidden in sky and sea; perhaps they are creating their own archipelago as a migratory resting place. (available for purchase)
